The hostel features wonderful exposed beams, grand fireplaces and hand-carved ceilings. The 16th-century basement has a TV games area and a courtyard garden.Safestay York has private bedrooms and bright and airy dormitories, all with personal reading lights and orthopaedic mattresses. Private rooms also have air conditioning and a personal safe.

Continental breakfasts are served daily in the dining room, which features elegant chandeliers and banquet tables. There is also a lively bar at the reception, serving bottled beers and ciders.The hostel overlooks Micklegate and the city’s medieval walls. York Minster is a 10-minute walk away, and the picturesque Shambles shopping area is just half a kilometer away.

Bathrooms really need to be improved and cleaned. There's no place to put your clothes or shower goods and the floors are disgusting. The shower is level with the toilet so the filth from the shower mixes with toilet water plus toilet paper... So your clothes that you have nowhere to put become wet with gross toilet water. You get the picture. The shower is also freezing. The best I could muster was a lukewarm temperature to jump in and out. Then decided not to shower and tough out until my next hotel in a different town. Wi-Fi basically doesn't work outside of the lobby so there's really none ( at least none in the female dorm) Beds are comfy. 24/7 reception is great and very helpful. Fridge available so that's really helpful.

My only negative comment is on the receptionist. She was rude and and careless about what I was asking her. Good location of the venue though and price.

was cosy and clean and the bathroom was spotless. The receptionist was charming and efficient and I was able to leave my bag well before the 2.00 check in time Overall a great place to stay! · I was surprised that there was no wardrobe or drawers but as I only stayed one night it didn't really matter. My biggest problem was stumbling every time I left the bathroom as the floorboards peaked in a V shape and I kept forgetting to do a sidestep!

distance. I was very happy with my choice. There is a good sitting area with a bar but they dont really use it or staff that bar during my stay. Maybe they use it more and i wasnt there when it was slow. They have locks and other hostel items available. I think it was for purchase, not sure as i brought my own.
