Their ethical and environmental credentials are second to none. They have a newly refurbed building designed to minimise our negative impact on the world (solar panels, high levels of insulation, double glazed windows etc). All of their food is sourced locally and hostel offer opportunities for young people to gain valuable work skills and experience.  The Bristol Wing is owned and managed by YMCA Bristol as a social enterprise – so any profits they make are reinvested in supporting young people who are homeless in the city.

The Bristol Wing is slap bang in the middle of Bristol City Centre. Hostel is a stone’s throw from Bristol Bus Station, 20 minutes’ walk from Temple Meads Railway Station and only meters away from local bus stops. Bristols best shopping is on the door step, whether you want the independent shops of Park Street and Clifton, the big name brands in Cabot Circus or quirky market stalls in St Nicholas’s Market, they’re with walking distance. Great hostel for a small group of friends. Staff very helpful. Not a party hostel, great ethical hostel as money goes to them on the homeless line

I choose to stay at the Bristol Wing as it had great reviews and I was happy to see that the hostel was doing what they could to help the young homeless people of Bristol. However a good deed does not compensate my negative experience. I checked into a 9 bed dorm because from my experience they are usually more spacious - what I encountered was the smallest bedroom in the UK. 3 bed bunks and overcrowded with lots of cages for lockers. We had long stay people in the room with us - which felt very intimidating as I was there to make friends and felt I was imposing on their space. In addition 75% of the room were in conflict with the other 25% of people in the room over the window being open. As the room is so small and you have 9 people and all their stuff in the room there was no air and very hot. I understand its next to a busy road but the temperature was uncomfortable. To make matters one for the 25% (long stay) left the radiators on at night to dry their clothes again make my stay at the the hostel feel intimidating. Being a 3 bed bunk the space is crammed so you can bang your head getting up. I can suffer from mild claustrophobia too so I felt scared staying in the bottom bunk - which was dark and filthily. Under and around the bunks had not been cleaned and nor was one of the bathrooms when I was staying too. I would recommend keep away from this hostel and there is 0 atmosphere too. I have stayed in my fair share of hostels and I was shocked at the standard of the hostel compared to the high scores on hostelworld. Avoid!

This place is gross. Sheets stained and a room the size of shoe box with three triple bunk beds is disgusting. The smell that came from the lack of ventilation was awful. The bathrooms were filthy too and the toilet was in there so there was often a line to use them, two toilets for one half of a floor is ridiculous. Staff were also clueless had no idea about walking tours etc. Very creepy old men in the room making comments about the way we looked, I think room allocation should have more thought put into it. Overall I would definitely not stay here, it was dirty and smelly and we felt unsafe.
