This hotel is among those being used by the Mears Group to detain asylum seekers in cramped, degrading and unsafe conditions, during the coronavirus lockdown. These people have had their financial support withdrawn. The food provided is substandard in quality, low in nutritional value and culturally inappropriate. Adnan Olbeh, a young man seeking refuge from Syria died in one of the hotels in May 2020. Despite this, pleas for change made by both individuals and organisations have been ignored. Mears have continually tried to deny, silence and cover up the situation in the hotels. As of 13/06/20, there are over 20 people refusing food in the Ibis Hotel, McLays Guest House and Park Inn. Please take this into account when choosing your hotel. If this puts you off staying here, please let the hotel know your reason. Thank you.

This hotel is currently housing asylum seekers who are not being fed safe, edible food and cannot possibly maintain social distancing. Ibis is complicit in the risk to their physical health. By co-operating with the home office and providing rooms for asylum seekers to be FORCIBLY moved to, they are making it possible for vulnerable asylum seekers (who may be fleeing war and other dangerous conditions in their countries of origin) to be removed from their own homes and detained against their will in single hotel rooms for months. Ibis is responsible for the damage to these people's mental health, who are being imprisoned having committed NO CRIME. These people have also had their already-tiny financial allowances completely removed. Hotel profits should not come before human lives. Don't stay here.
