I was unfortunate to find myself in this so-called hostel! My terrible experience started with not knowing that the dorms were mixed! I was the second person to be allocated a 6-bunk room because 4 bunks were unoccupied on my arrival. You can imagine my utmost surprise when I saw men (youngest could be in his mid-40s) all streaming one after the other into the room from 7p.m. By 9p.m, I realised that I was the only female amidst 5 unknown men ! I went down to the pub to ask the possibility of being moved out to another room with ladies. I was practically ignored by the Manager, telling me that nothing could be done! After making more unsuccessful attempts to try persuading them in taking me out of the room, I decided to take my pillow and sleep in the pub. I felt safe sleeping downstairs in the pub (despite the noise) than sleeping in a locked room with 5 MALE strangers! By midnight, one of the bartenders (a Spanish or Italian) woke me up and asked me to go up to my "room". I told him I did not intend sleeping in a room with 5 unknown men.... 30mins later, he came up to me again, this time telling me to leave the bar, I decided to ignore him, pretending not to have heard him. Later on, I overheard him reporting me to his colleagues and trying to persuade some ladies to walk me up to my "room", and as soon as I was in bed, they could then leave - as if I was a kid they were trying to put to bed! 🙁 I suppose the ladies refused his proposal because nobody came up to me. I ended up spending my first night in the UK in a pub with my hands over a table! 🙁 The following morning, I told the same guy that his Manager said that they could work up something after Check-out, and I DID NOT INTEND spending another night sleeping in the pub. He answered me rudely saying that it was my problem, that I should have known that a "6-person bedroom" implied "mixed" - because a "person" could be a male or female! He went on to say that there was nothing they could do - and I was the one that had issues with men! P.S. It is true, maybe I did not pay attention to the word "person" as mentioned by the bartender, or even the word "mixed" before paying online.... But what I do not understand is why putting 5 guys with a lady! If it had been 3 men to 3 women, I would not mind.... But what annoyed me was the fact that they already knew that a lady had already checked into the room, and they still went on to book the same room to 5 men! Weren't there ladies that checked into the hostel after my arrival that afternoon ??? Anyway, spoke to his female colleague who took over that morning, and she promised trying to do something - because I noticed that someone had checked out of the room upon my return (around 8a.m). I was, therefore, hoping to have at least 1 female roommate on my 2nd night. I returned to the hostel in the evening, only to realise that the empty bunk had been given to another man! This time around, I decided to look elsewhere for another hostel that night - unfortunately, couldn't get any because it was already too late. In the room, I got speaking with 2 of my roommates - who were also surprised to find out that they had a female roommate. They encouraged me to look for another hostel....Besides, both of them were leaving the following day - so I could end up having 2 new male roommates again. While waiting for the pub customers to leave - because very noisy down there - I ended up dozing off in my bed. However, I felt more at ease sleeping in the room, because I had "fraternized" with 2 of the men. Fortunately, the following day, I was able to get another hostel, because I was scared of finding myself again with all-male roommates. This time around, I paid for the remaining 2 nights in an all-female room. I knew I would not be refunded, but I preferred ending my stay in London comfortably than sleeping with open eyes ! N.B. Added to this, the uncleanliness and the dilapidated state of the hostel ! TERRIBLE !

Every duvet on every one of the 6 bunks in the room was seriously old, stinking and sticky inside. Triple bunks are not a good idea and overall it was one of the worst places I've ever stayed at. Staff were ok, I guess. Polite, friendly and indifferent. Very cheap and I suppose you get what you pay for. That said, I have stayed in much better for the same sort of price, like st. Christopher's inn, for example. I should say that it was 2016 that I visited.
